Spotlight on Candy and Pie

We are featuring two, shall we say, sweet books.  One is a fantasy called The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull, and the other is a mystery called PIE  by Sarah Weeks .  We can trust both Brandon Mull and Sarah Weeks to write books that are page-turners.  Their writing style is very different, but both authors will hold your interest!  Let's start with CANDY.

The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull

Nate, Summer, Trevor, and Pigeon, find that the candy in the new candy shop in town has magic.  Furthermore, the candy shop owner sends the four friends on a mission to find a certain "object" holding special powers.  There are added dangers to the quest in the form of magicians who have an interest in the same item.  Don’t be too disappointed at the end of this exciting book, because the sequel is due out this October.  You may find  Book 2, The Arcade Catastrophe in your school library!

PIE by Sarah Weeks

Alice’s Aunt Polly owns and operates the PIE shop, making award winning pies.  She doesn’t even charge people for the pies.  One small problem is that Alice’s mother doesn’t care for Polly, and she is all too quick to point out all her faults.  Alice is very close to Aunt Polly, and all of the sudden Aunt Polly is ill and on her deathbed.  What would happen if Aunt Polly passed away?  Find out the extreme measures people will take to learn Aunt Polly’s secret pie ingredients.   This book is much more than a simple mystery.  We get to know Sarah, as well as her family, and her friend who helps her solve the mystery.
