Historical Fiction

Interested in History?

Love to Read?

Try some Historical Fiction books this summer.
Dear America is series of books that retell stories from a child's point of view based on historical facts.  Most of the books are told in the author's first person voice and in a diary format.
Here is a summary of a very popular one from my school's collection.
Dear America: Voyage on the Great Titanic

This is the story of Margaret Ann Brady.  Her brother left her in an orphanage five years and immigrated to America.  However, when the orphanage receives a request from an America woman for a girl to accompany her on the Titantic, Margaret's teacher thinks she would be perfect for the job.  Once the Titantic is safe in New York, Margaret will be free to join her brother in Boston.  Yet we all know now that the Titantic did not arrive safely and Margaret's journey to America becomes one of tragedy and loss.
